STUDY OF AYURVEDIC MEDICINE (LAS02) IN HUMAN CERVIX CANCER CELL LINE (HELA)

Cytotoxicity is the quality of being toxic to cells .Treating cells with the cytotoxic drug can result in a variety of cell fates. The cells may undergo necrosis, in which they lose membrane integrity and die rapidly as a result of cell lysis. The cells can stop actively growing and dividing (a decrease in cell viability), or the cells can activate a genetic program of controlled cell death (apoptosis).

The purpose of this study to evaluate the cytotoxicity potential of LAS02 in human cervix cancer (HeLa) cell line

RESULT

The cytotoxic effect of Las02 was determined using concentrations ranging from 50mg L−1 to 500mg L−1or 24h. After24h exposure, Las02 induced concentration-dependent cytotoxic effect about 80% at 500mg/L in cervical cell lines. Trypan blue was used to stain cells for observing the ratio of viable and dead cells. It was observed that increasing the concentration (50 to 500mg/L) of Las02 decreases viability of cancer cells. Low concentrations of the Las02 produced low toxic effect on cells whereas at higher concentrations (500mg/L) there was higher effect in toxicity so that in only 18% in cancer cell lines (HeLa), respectively, viability was observed.

On the basis of above finding it is concluded that Las02 showed cytotoxicity effect about 80% at concentration 500mg/L in (HeLa) cervical cell lines
